Hither Green grew up around its station, a busy railway junction with sidings and a depot beside the tracks. Staplehurst Road has a short parade of cafés, shops and a pub, and Hither Green Lane is the main road through the area. Either side are streets of late Victorian and Edwardian terraces, many of them split into flats, with the quieter roads on the Lee side running towards Manor House Gardens and the River Quaggy.
