W11 takes in Notting Hill Gate, Portobello Road, the western end of Westbourne Grove, the Ladbroke estate and Holland Park Avenue. Its edges reach into neighbouring boroughs, but its heart is the grid of crescents and garden squares laid out in the nineteenth century.

Communal gardens bring wildlife in

Much of the Ladbroke estate was built with private communal gardens behind the houses, and they are what makes pest control in W11 different. Lawns, mature trees, compost heaps and bird feeders feed rats, squirrels and foxes, and every house around a garden shares them. When rats burrow under a shed or squirrels get into a roof, several households are usually affected at once, so we often work for a garden committee or managing agent rather than a single flat.
